Learning in Families, Schools and Beyond BA (Hons)

COURSE INFORMATION

This undergraduate degree is designed primarily for:
Para-professionals already working in extended schools, children’s Centres, family settings and in the community; people aiming to work in the settings above and in multidisciplinary teams; parents and returnees to work.

It provides the opportunity to:

  1. Understand the growing emphasis on learning beyond schools
  2. Develop knowledge of the principles of learning in schools, communities and families
  3. Develop knowledge and understanding of child development
  4. Develop knowledge and understanding of lifelong learning, inclusion, raising standards and the Every Child Matters agenda
  5. Develop the necessary skills and attitudes required to work in multidisciplinary settings and integrated services
  6. Develop skills in working with a wide variety of professionals, paraprofessionals and the public
  7. Undertake activity designed to facilitate learning beyond schools and develop skills in collecting and analysing evidence
  8. Reflect upon and analyse practice of working in different settings to widen participation in learning
  9. Contribute to the Children’s Workforce.
  10. In Year 1, students will undertake 7 modules in:

  18. In Year 2, students will undertake 5 modules in:

  21. Child Development
  22. Professional and Academic Development
  23. Multi-agency services within the Community
  24. In Year 3, students will undertake 6 modules in:

  25. Parenting and the Family
  26. Extended Focused Fieldwork
  27. Advanced Study and Enquiry
  28. Learning Beyond the School
  29. Parenting and the Family
  30. Leadership & Management in Community Initiative
  31. In Year 4, students will undertake 3 modules in:

  32. Extended Focused Fieldwork
  33. Advanced Study and Enquiry
  34. Learning Beyond the School

A diploma in Higher Education (Public Services Management) will be awarded on successful completion of the first year study.

Standard Entry:
This course is aimed at people working in the public or voluntary sectors. Admission to the programme in September will be based on interview, evidence of work-based experience, commitment to continuing professional development and any previous qualifications.
