Programme Overview
The BA/BA(Hons) Financial Services (flexible) programme was developed after extensive consultation with the various constituent parts of the Scottish financial services sector regarding the structure of the programme and the knowledge and skills required by graduates. The programme lays the foundations for the pursuit or continuance of a career in the financial services industry, whether in a bank, building society or insurance company, or in more specialist areas such as investment funds management or stockbroking. Students entering this programme will normally already be working in the financial services sector but the programme is also suitable for those who are considering a career in the sector.
Mode of Study
This is a part-time programme which is studied on a flexible (distance) learning basis - no attendance is required. For students commencing at level 3 of the programme, it will normally take two years of part-time study to complete a degree or four years of part-time study to complete an honours degree. For students entering the programme at level 4, it will normally take up to two years of part-time study to complete an honours degree depending upon the entry route selected. In order to achieve the degree/honours degree within this time scale students will be required to study four modules a year at a rate of two per semester.
Criteria for Admission to the Programme
The BA/BA(Hons) Financial Services (flexible) programme is designed for students seeking advanced entry into the degree at either level 3 or level 4 on the basis of their prior qualifications and/or industry experience. The precise route through the programme which will be pursued therefore depends upon the individual student’s entry qualifications. Specifically:
