Diploma in Management Development (DMD)

COURSE INFORMATION

This programme is designed to be an introduction to management and, as such, explores issues in the context of first time supervision and junior management.

The programme provides academic preparation, and satisfies academic entry requirements for those applicants without existing appropriate level qualifications, who want to undertake the NBS Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Development or NBS part-time MBA.

The topics studied on the programme are aligned to the MCI management standards at NVQ Level 4.

Modules studied are:

  1. Managing self and personal skills
  2. Working with others
  3. Achieving results and facilitating change
  4. Managing information

COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT

The programme is continuously assessed via a variety of work-based assignments and personal organizational development plans.

The aims of the programme are reflected in the assessment process in that students will seek to develop awareness of management theory and an understanding of its relevance in the workplace and to their own role.

Attendence:
The Diploma in Management Development is delivered on a part-time basis, supported by 3-hours workshops, at approximately fortnightly intervals. Students are provided with directed self-study materials and are supported electronically through the University’s Blackboard system.

Course Length:

1 year, part-time flexible attendance, mainly open learning with some workshop attendance.

Standard Entry:

There are no formal academic entry requirements for this course, but it is anticipated that applicants will have a supervisory management role within the organization, with at least some responsibility for any or all of the following: staff, activities, information and budgets.
