COURSE INFORMATION
Commercial awareness is a pre-requisite for both legal practitioners and those in business. The LLM/Diploma in Commercial Law is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Commercial Law and opportunities for personal development within area.
Students on the programme gain specialist legal knowledge within a practical context, whilst developing expertise in chosen areas and enhancing research skills. The programme will be of interest to legal practitioners, to those in business and to people in the public sector who encounter various aspects of Commercial Law. It will also interest students who wish to enhance their qualifications in this area. A number of students have found that the programme also provides a useful platform from which to progress onto further professional legal training.
The programme builds upon participant’s experience - whether gained through undergraduate study, employment or legal practice – and in addition to developing existing expertise and knowledge, the programme offers a range of practical benefits including:

What you will study
The LLM in Commercial Law offers you the possibility of studying a number of subjects of particular relevance to commercial activities.
Core module
Legal Research in Commercial Law aims to introduce students to fundamental legal concepts, the structure of the courts and the source of law. In particular the module introduces students to the nature of contractual and tortuous liability and develops the necessary core knowledge and understanding for the study of more specialist aspects of commercial law. The module integrates and writing skills.

COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT
Each core and optional module is assessed through the completion of a written assignment. Students are required to submit an assignment of no more than 4,000 words for each module. There are no examinations on this programme. Students wishing to gain an LLM must complete a dissertation of between 16,000 and 20,000 words in a related topic of their choice.

Attendance
This full-time programme commences in September only. The programme begins with an intensive induction period during which students start their first core module in Legal Research in Commercial Law. The programme is divided into blocks during which students study two or three modules at a time. Students are required to attend lectures and workshops.

Standard Entry:
The usual entry requirement is one of the following:
- A degree in Law.
- A degree incorporating law.
- Elements or a joint honours degree incorporating law.
- A comparable professional qualification.
Students with non-law degrees but appropriate work experience will also be considered. Candidates without a degree or equivalent but suitable work related experience may also exceptionally be considered for admission to the Diploma.
Other:
Applicants for whom English is not their first language, must have attained a score of 6.5 or higher in the IELTS test.
Additional Notes:
There are two intakes for this programme – one in September and one in February.
